Luke Underwood Technical Manager Galvanizers Association

Meet the expert: Luke Underwood, Technical Manager

Luke Underwood is Technical Manager at Galvanizers Association. He leads the technical team that provides the industry and the specifying community with authoritative, independent information on hot dip galvanizing.

His work centres on three areas: shaping the standards, producing the technical guidance, and making sure GA’s advice is consistent, accurate and current.

Shaping the standards

Standards committees

Luke plays a leading role in developing the standards that govern hot dip galvanizing and corrosion protection at national, European and international level. He represents the UK and Irish galvanizing industry on committees where specification requirements are drafted, debated and revised.

This involvement means GA’s guidance reflects what the standards require, the reasoning behind them and how they are likely to change.

Developing technical literature

Luke oversees GA’s technical literature: the guidance documents and publications that specifiers, designers and galvanizers rely on. He makes sure each one is technically robust, aligned with the latest standards and clear enough to apply with confidence in design and specification.

Leading the technical team

Luke manages GA’s technical team and its technical enquiry service. He also manages the industry committees that develop the galvanizing sector’s positions on technical, environmental, and health and safety issues. He develops technical training for member galvanizers and presents CPD seminars to architects and engineers. Where needed, he carries out on-site inspections.
  • Technical enquiry serviceManages the team that answers specifiers’ and fabricators’ questions.
  • Industry committeesDevelops the sector’s positions on technical, environmental, and health and safety issues.
  • Training and CPDBuilds training for member galvanizers and presents CPD seminars to architects and engineers.
  • On-site inspectionsInspects galvanized work on site where a project needs it.
